The local distribution system (LDS) is a system for the distribution of electricity. Through a single connection point (transformer), multiple electricity end consumers are connected to the higher-level distribution system. The typical locations are industrial zones, business centres, apartment complexes and groups of family houses.
The local distribution system is operated by a distribution company, which provides all services connected with the delivery of electricity to large consumers on the basis of a licence granted by the Energy Regulatory Office.
A good LDS operator can offer its consumers a lower price for power distribution than regional distribution companies without restricting the right of the end user to choose any electricity supplier. This is the main difference compared to other options for connecting to the distribution system.
